Magic The Gathering – Family affair

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I recently got back into the game of Magic The Gathering one of the most interesting complex card trading games available. This game was big back when I was in High School and seems to have a growing trend here in the Saint John area.

GameZilla in Saint John has Friday Night Magic every Friday and offer lessons to teach people to play. They also do drafts and play a variety of formats on Saturdays and Sundays.

What is Magic?

In the Magic game, you play the role of a planeswalker—a powerful wizard who fights other planeswalkers for glory, knowledge, and conquest. Your deck of cards represents all the weapons in your arsenal. It contains the spells you know and the creatures you can summon to fight for you.

This year if you followed me on Twitter me and my good friend Chris attended MTG Provincials placing 25th and 26th, not bad for the both us just starting out again.

If you are interested in Learning more about Magic The Gathering visit your local GameZilla or The official Wizards of the Coast Website at http://www.wizards.com/magic/TCG/NewtoMagic.aspx?x=mtg/tcg/newtomagic/whatismagic

So because of my interest, my own children are demonstrating an interest.  So I’m going to try to help them to learn, but my youngest Kathleen just couldn’t wait to get ahead of everyone else.

Two Xboxes behind One Router and Works

Monday, September 28th, 2009

D-Link Wireless N Router (DIR-615) (product link) After much hassle and bouncing around with Xbox Live, Rogers, and Different Router Companies we finally found a router that works. We have two Xboxes one that hooks up via wireless network adapter and one that is hard lined to the router.

We went through all of the port forwarding and dmz and everything they will run you through but the problem was the routers we were using. We picked this one up from Future Shop (help desk recommended it) took it home after trying two that were over $200 i thought no way this $70 one was going to work, i was wrong. It took about 10 min to setup, i didn’t have to do any dmz, no port forwarding or anything and now both xboxes  can play on live, halo 3, halo 3 odst, and nhl 10 without any problems or nat issues.

So if your having the same problem where one Xbox is losing it’s live connection give this router a try it worked great for us.

Last night I played some Left 4 Dead with some friends and I came out with some great achievements, that are quite difficult to get so I figured I should share them.
