No Blues From this Blu-Ray Player

Monday, September 28th, 2009

LG Blu-ray Disc Player (BD370C) – from Futureshop (product url), I picked this up this weekend and got an extra surprise it game with 3 blu-ray movie pack which had Alien VS Predator (the second one), The day after tomorrow, and 27 Dresses. Now I picked this one over the cheaper version as this one connects to BD Live which is recommended so you can easily get software updates. The price as reasonable at $249.99.

It was easy to hook up just connected the hdmi and network cable then everything just worked, I had to manually tell it to check for a software update and it took about 3 min for the update to complete. I watched two movies The Day After Tomorrow and Iron Man rented from (block buster) and there wasn’t the slightest glitch at all. Only complaint was from my wife that she could see pimple on Robert Downey Jr.

Doing a side by side comparison there is definitely an improvement with blu-ray video and sound quality to dvd for people who have hd tv’s and are wondering if blu-ray is worth it. This one also has a direct connection to youtube so that you can search and watch youtube video’s through this blu-ray machine which was fun to play around with but great for finding some of those classic online shows like Chad Vader.

I am really pleased that this one is working out well without problems so I guess i’m not on the bandwagon of Ps3’s are the bluray of choice as I had nothing but problems as from my previous post.

PS3 Blu-Ray gave me the Blues

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

So I purchased a PS3 yesterday as a blu-ray player only as everyone says how great they are. I went and picked up a blu-ray movie “Push” as i thought was a great movie to test, and I started having problems right away. Every 15 min it would stick skip either a view seconds or even 5 min of the movie so i did some reading online, disabled my controller etc. etc.

Same problem, so i decided that’s enough and the PS3 is being returned to the store as for $300 it was an epic failure that i’m not putting up with. The way I look at it for $300 the product better do what it brags about at least the first time you turn it on or it’s just not worth your time.

So don’t believe the hype from the fan boys about how flawless this system is.

HDMI don’t blow your budget

If you are looking for an hdmi cable and your looking and seeing $40, $50 price tags that’s normal, but you don’t have to spend it. Head down to Zellers and pick up the Xtreme Full HD 24k HDMI cable for 19.99 or two for 29.99. Way better price than most places and it works just as well in my opinion.

Just wanted to pass on that money saving tip.
