SMC Gateway 8014 WG – Open Nat

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Here is the overall situation I have two Xbox 360’s one wired one wireless and I need the nat to be open for both so as you saw from my earlier D-link post it didn’t work.

This is the wireless router provided by Rogers SMC Gateway 8014 WG, and with the port forwarding i have been able to get one xbox 360 to open, with the other one’s Nat being moderate. I called rogers tech support who all of sudden were not helpful. This is the first complaint I’ve had about rogers tech support, up until last night they were very helpful but last night started the blame game. Saying if it was the router it would affect my pc which is untrue and just annoyed me.

So there is a couple of things I’m going to try tonight to see if we can get this up and running, but with this router if I forward the exact same ports for both xbox’s one of them won’t be able to connect to live at all. So I will be trying port forwarding for one, and dmz for the other to see if that has any effect. This router does not have UPNP so I can’t try that, but apparently the problem is having to xbox’s behind one connection which you would think with new technology would just work but as evidence has shown hasn’t worked yet.

If I get a working solution I will deffinately post it and link to the article online I found most helpful.

Picasa For Web Albums

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Well there is all kinds of different options for handling web albums and feel free to look around and find the one that works for you. I will be using picasa as I like how you can quickly upload images, and intergrate them into a website in a variety of manners, either single image, or the slide show as you can see on the lower right or on the photography page, or you can parse the RSS feed.

So with all of the different options i’m also leveraging this for Calais Events which has gain many visitors and delivers all kinds of information for the City of Calais. This will make this easier for them to implement photo’s that people would like to share around the city.

Yes Yes I can here people saying well if you do a search you can find the same local pictures, true but now you don’t have to search and hope that they are tagged correctly to be found, the can easily be displayed by Calais on thier website so visitors can find them rather quickly.

Also NHousman Has Released a new Gamer video on the New Ghost Busters Video Game over at Talknb.com, Rumor has it we might have Amanda back writing some reviews and providing information on movies, most likey on new releases to video stores.

Gaming with No Controller

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Well if you haven’t heard about it you should really check it out Project Natal from Microsoft. http://www.xbox.com/en-CA/live/projectnatal/

The next gen gaming without the need for a controller as you are the controller. Using the latest and greatest in technology. However I don’t think that this is such a great idea, I mean how much space do most people have in their living room. The Wii already required you to move your coffee table so that you could get the full range of motion, now your going to require a room dedicated with nothing in it for gaming.

Doing round houses and jumping around is that really what’s the best thing for gaming?
My biggest fear is that game developers will focus more on making this part work than keeping the quality of the games up.  I mean hardcore gamers will still use a controller to have control in GTA IV, opposed to trying to run on the spot to chase down a car when your on a time limit.

I think this is just the new fad and i hope it doesn’t take away from the quality of the games, i mean is NHL 10 going to be as cool when they have to spend an additional 6 months to make the character react to the user’s movement instead of a controller?? I guess only time will tell, I am very interested in this and will most likely be checking it out when it releases. I just hope i don’t have to build a new room on to my house in order to be able to use this system.
